2019 is just a few weeks away! Web Design and Development is becoming more user-focused and intuitive each day and developers are using new and emerging technologies to build robust web solutions.
In this blog, we will highlight the major trends of Web Design and Development that are here to stay in the coming year.
User Experience
I will start my list with User Experience as it is the most important aspect of web design and development. Dan Norman, the man who coined the term User Experience, defines it as “the process of enhancing user satisfaction with a product by improving the usability, accessibility, and pleasure provided in the interaction.”
The designers are walking a tightrope where they have to maintain the crucial balance between visual aesthetics and user functionality. The website or mobile application’s flow should be intuitive and seamless.
For example – if the user is browsing an e-commerce website, everything from researching the desired product to finding the best price, applying coupon code, and completing the purchase should be in a continuous, uninterrupted, and positive flow. Any hindrance or struggle to procure more information in this purchase cycle is a negative experience for the customers.
The web solution you are developing addresses a certain need of the user. The designer and developer should understand and empathize with the user and create the most simple and intuitive solution to address that problem. Any complexities and effort can lead to user frustration and you could lose your customer to a competitor.
Mobile First
Your phone is your window to the world. You use it for everything – from keeping in touch to entertainment to ordering food and fixing a date. Internet usage on mobile has surpassed internet usage on the desktop a long time ago.
According to Statista, as of July 2018, over 4.1 billion people were active internet users and 3.3 billion were social media users. China, India, and the United States rank ahead of all other countries in terms of internet users.
However, users can access your website from their desktop, laptop, tablet, or mobile device. All these devices have different screen sizes and form factors. It is better for the designer to opt for Responsive web development.
Your web solution can either have a mobile version- developed using native or cross-platform technologies. Alternatively, you can also opt for Progressive Web Apps for higher engagement and conversion.
Chatbots – Artificial Intelligence
Chatbots are another Web Development trend that will evolve further in 2019. The bots are being utilized for customer care, search, and other client interactions.
As per a recent study by Gartner, all the major e-commerce websites are likely to opt for Artificial Intelligence – Voice and Visual search by the year 2021. Chatbots are revolutionizing the online buying experience for customers by giving them a more personalized shopping experience with product recommendations, personalized advertisements, and videos to encourage sales.
High Performance – Faster loading speed
Your website should be fast to ensure that the user doesn’t need to wait endlessly for it to load. Building a fast, robust, and scalable website is not a matter of choice anymore. The end user can easily spend his dollar with your competitor if his browsing experience was slow or interrupted.
Single Page Websites
Web designers and developers globally are sticking to the “Less is more” mantra! The layouts today are all about simplicity and minimalism. Single-page websites and favored by search engines and are easily optimized for mobile devices. They are also updated easily and swiftly. Furthermore, single-page websites drive users towards conversion and generate more leads as there are no distractions.
